چکیده

Despite numerous studies, the mechanistic understanding of the role of the photochemical processes and their coupling with the thermal processes in UV laser ablation is still far from being complete. In this work, the effects of the photochemical reactions on the laser ablation mechanism are delineated based on the results of molecular dynamics simulations of 248 nm laser irradiation of solid chlorobenzene. Photochemical reactions are found to release additional energy into the irradiated sample and decrease the average cohesive energy, therefore decreasing the value of the ablation threshold. The yield of emitted fragments becomes significant only above the ablation threshold. Below the ablation threshold only the most volatile photoproduct, HCl, is ejected in very small amounts, whereas the remainder of photoproducts are trapped inside the sample. Results of the simulations are in a good qualitative agreement with experimental data on the ejection of photoproducts in the laser ablation of chlorobenzene. © 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. Study of laser ablation using nano-second laser pulses

In this paper, the laser ablation process based on the irradiation of nanosecond pulsed lasers on a copper target surface in the presence of Helium gas is studied. The dynamical behaviors of the generated plasma in the helium gas and evaporated copper at the atmospheric pressure are examined using a laser pulse, laser wavelength of and intensity of 7×1010W/cm2. A one-dimensional thermal model ...

Molecular dynamics study of ablation of solids under femtosecond laser pulses

We study the mechanisms of ablation of solids under femtosecond laser pulses using a two-dimensional molecular-dynamics model. By using a novel method to obtain the thermodynamic relaxation path of different sections of the target in the phase diagram, it is shown that four mechanisms can account for ablation for fluences (energy injected per unit surface) under the threshold for plasma formati...

CT-guided laser probe for ablation of brain tumors

In this study, 22 patients (15-75 years old) were selected and transferred to CT scan for tumor ablation. For ablations, after prep and drep under the local anesthesia and mild sedation in proper position, small incision made and special needle inserted and guided by proper direction to the core of the tumor. Then, laser probe inserted through the needle and laser energy delivered. Although we ...

Analysis of the Photo Conversion of Asphaltenes Using Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometry: Fragmentation, Ring Fusion, and Fullerene Formation

The conversion or photo conversion of asphaltenes to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH’s) promoted by a laser source is analyzed using both experimental and theoretical methods. We propose that during measurements performed at an intermediate laser power, fragmentation to afford PAH’s and ring fusion to yield fused PAH’s (FPAH’s) may occur either within molecular clusters (resin case) or wi...

Preparation and Characterization of ZnO Nanoparticles by Laser Ablation in NaOH Aqueous Solution

In the recent years, laser ablation in liquid has become an increasingly important technique for the fabrication of NPs. this paper reports our recent studies on the generation of ZnO NPs by ablation of metal targets in aqueous environments using Q-switch Nd-YAG laser (λ=532nm) immersed in NaOH (0.1M). The Surface topography studied by atomic force microscopy revealed wider size distributio...
